All roads lead to Dublin for Castle Leslie Riding Club!!

Sunday 19th May saw 19 teams line out to contest the North Eastern Region Team SJ Qualifier. This competition sponsored by Horsware has 8 regional qualifiers, the winner of each heads to the Dublin Horse Show in the RDS in August for the Championships.

At the halfway point, 8 of the teams were in equal first place on 0 faults, with all the riders having to jump a second round.  With faults clocking up for all teams, it was down to team captains on the teams to secure victory. Barbara Johns on her gelding Woody Allen had it all to do and only a clear round would leave the team on 0 faults overall.  With 4 teams already on 4 faults, a single pole down would have meant a jump-off between these teams for the honour of representing the region at the RDS. Barbara and Woody didn’t let the side down, with a great clear round of jumping under pressure.

There was a tense wait as the last 2 riders jumped for other teams and then a quick calculation and double check to make sure that the club had won the qualifier outright...and they had! Confirmation that Castle Leslie Riding Club had for the first time qualified to represent the region at the Dublin Horse Show in August was greeted with huge cheers, hugs and champagne! Massive congratulations to the team of Julie McNally on Zebidee, Jenny Mongomery on Milfords Lady, Samantha Johns on Derryhee Sirocco and Barbara Johns on Woody Allen (Captain).

And we musn't forget the white team of Shona, Jeremy, Francie and George who finished in 6th place on 8 faults!

The AIRC Team Showjumping Championships are held on  Sunday 11th August at the Simmonscourt Arena, RDS so we would encourage everybody planning on attending the horse show that weekend, to come along and show your support for Castle Leslie Riding Club!!
